Latest Windows 11 Update Crashes Certain Ubisoft Games

The latest update for Windows 11, 24H2, comes with some unexpected bugs for fans of Ubisoft games. Those who have updated to 24H2 can expect unresponsive games or black screens while playing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, or Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which covers pretty much every Ubisoft game that anyone is playing right now.

Microsoft has officially confirmed that the issue is present and has put a hold on the update for anyone who has any of these games installed while they work on a fix with Ubisoft. As it stands, Ubisoft has released an update for Star Wars Outlaws, but there may still be some issues.

Microsoft has also warned against manually updating your Windows 11 machines if you plan on playing any of the above Ubisoft games before they can find and fix the bug.

The online community has targeted Ubisoft’s use of Denuvo’s DRM as the culprit, but after some digging, it seems that the issue lies with a DLL file called NTDLL. This file handles exporting the Windows API to certain applications and processes and has been the source of many crashing programs in the past.

For now, we sit and wait for Microsoft to fix the issue while exploring the underworld of Star Wars instead of working.
