Xiaomi, South Africa’s number three smartphone brand by market share, has launched the Xiaomi 14T smartphone in South Africa.
Two weeks ago, the Xiaomi 14T and Xiaomi 14T Pro were launched globally at the international launch in Berlin. It was also announced that South Africa won’t be getting the Pro variant of this device.
The last time we had hands-on experience with the Xiaomi T series was when the Xioami 11T Pro was launched in the country. Two years on, that phone is still one of the most impressive smartphones we’ve used for its price.
As to be expected, we were rather excited to get some limited hands-on time with the Xiaomi 14T at the launch event.

In terms of specifications, the Xiaomi 14T is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8300-Ultra chipset. It has 12GB of RAM, and the local version has 512GB of storage space.
The camera features a cluster of three sensors: a 50 MP, f/1.7, 23mm wide, a 50 MP, f/1.9, 50mm telephoto, and a 12 MP, f/2.2, 15mm ultrawide. All with a Leica lens to add a touch of sophistication to your photos. When it comes to shooting video, the rear camera can capture video up to 4K at 60fps with a maximum frame rate of 960fps at 1080p for slow-mo fanatics.

The Xiaomi 14T has a 5,000mAh battery with 67w charging, a far cry from the 120w fast charging we saw on the Xiaomi 11T Pro. Sadly, it does not have wireless charging capabilities.
The large 6,67-inch screen has a refresh rate of 144Hz and a resolution of 2712 x 1220 pixels at 446ppi, with a brightness of 4,000 nits.
When it comes to real-world performance, we’ll reserve our final thoughts on this device once we have some time to game on this phone. We know that the MediaTek Dimensity 8300-Ultra chipset is outperformed by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which it competes against in the performance market segment. However, this won’t affect mainstream users who are not chasing the highest performance numbers.
The Xiaomi 14T will be available at Vodacom starting at R799/pm over 36 months or R17,300 if purchased outright.
