At the start of 2024, Warner Bros. must’ve felt like they’d downed a bottle of Felix Felicis because Hogwarts Legacy had them on quite the victory lap.
WB Interactive Entertainment president David Haddad announced in early January that the game had already sold over 22 million copies in 2023 alone.
It’s not surprising that Hogwarts Legacy was a vault full of Galleons. Despite controversies surrounding its creator, J.K. Rowling, the Harry Potter series and the Wizarding World are still as big as a Hungarian Horntail.
Surprisingly, its sales numbers were even higher than those of industry gold mines like Marvel and Call of Duty. This is mainly due to Hogwarts Legacy fully embracing a gap in the market.

While there have been Harry Potter games in the past, Hogwarts Legacy was the first time we got a high-budget, standalone game that wasn’t just a puzzle or mobile app.
And given its success, a sequel is more inevitable than Hagrid showing up late to a Care of Magical Creatures lesson. And now WB Discovery’s CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels—let’s call him the Minister of Magic for Muggle Finances—has Alohomora’d the news.
Gunnar Wiedenfels casually mentioned at the Bank of America’s 2024 Media, Communications, and Entertainment Conference that a Hogwarts Legacy follow-up is one of Warner Bros.’s “biggest priorities,” with an implied release in 2026.
But now I want to know if you’re excited about a follow-up game or if you think Hogwarts Legacy was best as a one-and-done. Let me know in the comments.
