Horror Fan? These Six Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024 Trailers Are For You!

And just like that, Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024 has come and gone after it kicked off this year’s Gamescom with a bang—and possibly a few screams.

We got bombarded with news, trailers, and announcements galore. Still, the real spine-chillers were the horror reveals that had poor Cody practically burrowing under his desk.

If you’re a fan of sleep and somehow missed the festivities last night, fear not! Here’s the rundown of every bone-chilling announcement from Gamescom Opening Night Live this year for you to get excited about.

Directive 8020

Starring Hollywood powerhouse Lashana Lynch as a trailblazing astronaut, Directive 8020 is here to make our nightmares even more cinematic!

The game mixes edge-of-your-seat survival with a storyline so twisted you’ll need a GPS to find your way out. From the minds that brought us Until Dawn and The Quarry, Directive 8020 is a new sci-fi survival horror thrill ride.

From what we’ve seen so far players better buckle up and get ready for a galactic game of “Do I save myself or do I doom humanity?”—because who doesn’t love a bit of cosmic existential dread with their gaming?

Dying Light: The Beast

One of my all-time favourite games for sharing good times with friends while hacking up zombies is about to make a gruesome comeback with Dying Light: The Beast.

Set in the spine-tingling Dying Light universe, this new instalment promises more of that heart-pounding first-person parkour action you love, but with extra zombies, nasty beasties, and who knows what other nightmarish creatures lurking in the shadows.

And if that’s not enough, it’ll also be set in an entirely new area.

Little Nightmares 3

How could we possibly have a list of horror games and not include the reigning champion of indie scares, Little Nightmares?

Sure, Little Nightmares 3 didn’t come to us with a release date or any juicy details, but who needs specifics when you’ve got a franchise that’s practically a masterclass in nightmare fuel?

I’m bracing myself for another round of spine-chilling fun—because if there’s one thing Little Nightmares never does, it’s let us sleep peacefully!

Lost Records: Bloom and Rage

I wouldn’t quite call Lost Records: Bloom and Rage a full-on nightmare generator, but from what we’ve seen so far, it definitely knows how to keep you on edge without keeping you up at night.

It’s got just the right blend of spookiness and suspense to keep your eyeballs glued to the screen from start to finish. The game will be released in episodes, with episode one dropping on February 18, 2025, and episode two will be creeping up on you exactly a month later, on March 18.

No More Room in Hell 2

Is there anything more spine-chilling in a game than the sheer terror of depending on your teammates? Now, mix in permadeath and 8-player co-op, and you’ve got a recipe for heart-pounding, hair-raising horror.

The Gamescom trailer teases some of No More Room in Hell 2’s newest locales, including a monstrous, church-like power plant that looks like it was designed by someone who truly hates your guts.

Set your calendar for Halloween because this game is gearing up for an early access release that’s sure to make your nightmares come alive-assuming you survive the chaos of working with your “team.”

Reanimal

From the twisted minds that brought you Little Nightmares, brace yourself for Reanimal, a new sidescroller that’s sure to give you chills and thrills, just like its predecessor.

In this spine-tingling adventure, you’ll be sprinting, leaping, and dodging your way through a nightmare landscape, alongside your adorably terrified sidekick.

If you thought Little Nightmares was a wild ride, just wait until you check out Reanimal, where the only thing scarier than the monsters might be the idea of missing out on it.

And that’s all she wrote for this year’s Gamescom Opening Night Live- unless, of course, you’re haunted by the memory of those announcements!

What do you make of these horror games? Have any of them got you trembling with anticipation, or was this year’s opening a soul-sucking abyss of disappointment? Let me know in the comments!
