Switch 2 Earliest Release Date Rumoured to be April 2025

According to Games Industry journalist Christopher Dring, the Nintendo Switch 2 will likely not be released until April 2025 at the earliest.

In the latest GamesIndustry.biz Microcast, Dring mentioned that Nintendo has told all of the developers he has spoken to not to expect the hardware to be released in the current fiscal year, which ends in March 2025.

Due to Nintendo’s tendency to release its consoles in a certain order, some believe that we might only see the Switch 2 in March 2026.

Of course, Nintendo doesn’t want to have another release issue like they did with the Switch 1, where stock shortages were too low to accommodate all the device purchases. We also know that multiple patents have been filed for Switch 2, like backward compatibility and a dual fan system. These hint at much better performance, meaning more parts and more chances for things to go wrong during production. This further points towards a much later date in the 2025 fiscal year.

While this doesn’t instill joy in us die-hard Switch fans, and while these are all still rumours, at least we’re still getting some sort of information that the Switch 2 is out there, and one day, we’ll be able to hold the device in our hands.
