I hardly need to preface this by saying that I love a good indie—if you frequent my posts, you definitely already know. However, ColdRidge is not the kind of indie I’d typically gravitate towards—but somehow, that makes me even more excited about it.
ColdRidge is a game all about explorers prospecting an ever-changing frontier. As the word “cowboy” might have hinted, the game boasts a solid American West aesthetic.
Essentially, the game is broken down into missions that need to be completed over time. Each year, players prospect the area around them to finish missions.
Players can make it through another year and upgrade their settlement if enough missions are completed. However, they must hit the target before year-end if they want their future to look bright. To put it mildly.

The strategic twist comes in with how you approach the missions. Each month, players can only accept X missions and travel X distance, which equates to eight hexes of movement.
This unique traversal system means players will constantly be rolling the dice and hoping that the unrevealed map will solve all their troubles.
ColdRidge comes from Frog Collective, a studio founded by the former art and tech lead developers at Amplitude. If you want to try ColdRidge for yourself, you can follow the link here to the game’s Steam page, where a demo is set to go live today.
