So, for those who don’t know about the joys of Terra Nil, it is essentially a reverse city builder. Instead of players spending their time taking over more and more of the surrounding wildlife with roads, buildings and cityscapes, players in Terra Nill are trying to expand the wilderness that surrounds their base.
The idea is to try to restore nature to a desolate wasteland, restoring life to dead biomes as you go. The game was received well, and it’s not hard to see why. Thanks to the developers, Free Lives, it is about to get even better.
The upcoming and first major update for the game will expand on the deeply satisfying nature restoration gameplay and dramatically overhaul the wildlife stem. According to the press release:

New levels include Polluted Bay, a dead landscape carved in half by a badly polluted river, and Scorched Caldera, a vast volcanic crater that you must terraform into a life-filled freshwater lake. These, and all the new maps in the Vita Nova update, will put your reclamation skills to the test in interesting and unusual ways.
These transformed landscapes will feel more alive than ever. Animals emerge more naturally as you play, and have a deeper set of needs to fulfill to keep them happy and abundant. This not only adds a new dimension of strategy to the game but gives you more animals to admire—including a brand new species, the jaguar—as nature is steadily restored.
Now, I do have a soft spot for city builders, but Terra Nil’s focus on making ecosystems habitable for various animals elevates all the strategic elements of the gameplay.
But now I want to know if you have tried Terra Nil yet, and if so, what your thoughts are on this upcoming update? Let me know.
