If you haven’t heard about the Computex Expo’s size, I will tell you again that it is huge! It was so massive, in fact, that it even overflowed into the expo building across the road, where another hall bursting with exhibitors eagerly awaited our visit.
In this second building, we encountered the Genius and GX Gaming booth, a brand that many of us know here in South Africa.
Known for their affordable, quality products in both the gaming and consumer fields of PC use, we had to check out all the latest products planned for release in the upcoming months.
While many of the other booths at the expo focused on RGB lighting and flashy displays, the simplicity of the Genius booth made it feel more like home than the others.
With a variety of co-pilot-powered mice and keyboards on display, as well as some of the GX Gaming brand products, Genius was not shy to show the expo that maybe it’s time to bring back the era of good-quality sound in the form of desktop speakers that deliver quite a punch.
In between all the products on show, here are our favourites:
Ergo 9000s:
The Ergo 9000s and 9000s Pro are the latest in portable mice from Genius, now with pre-programmed Co-pilot buttons at your fingertips, literally. The ergonomic shape is similar to previous generations of mice we’ve seen from Genius, allowing for longer periods of time with mouse in hand. Now, with access to Co-pilot and voice commands with the simple click of your thumb, your hand never needs to leave its mouse again. The Ergo 9000s comes with both 2.4Ghz and Bluetooth connection options, while the 9000s Pro comes with added RGB lighting and a rechargeable battery. Both mice can easily switch between two different Bluetooth connections and their 2.4 GHz wireless dongle by simply sliding a switch at the bottom of the mouse.

Ergo KB-700:
Now that keyboards are more than simply things we type on, the ergonomic wave design that was so prominent in the early 2000s is returning. The Ergo KB-700 features this ergonomic wave design and built-in palm rest, which allows for a more natural hand fall and keeps you productive behind your screen for longer. The keys are also more silent than usual keyboards, proving that the Ergo KB-700 is an excellent choice for office use. Also, featuring an easy-access Co-pilot key means your productivity will never take a blow to its flow.

GX Gaming SpeedMaster X3:
We had the chance to take this wheel for a spin, and boy, was it a wild ride. The SpeedMaster X3 features an insane 1080-degree turning circle, making it perfect for more than just straight-up racing. Truck and farm simulators can take full advantage of this kind of wheel. It also has dual motors and comes standard with a separate shifter and foot pedals. While the wheel itself is still in its testing phase, we’re certain it won’t be long before it makes its way onto store shelves.

GX Gaming Bluetooth Gamepad:
Call me a fanboy if you want to, but the DS controllers will always be some of the most comfortable out there. GX Gamings’ new Bluetooth Gamepad features a very similar design, making it very comfortable for those long hours of gaming. Compatible with multiple consoles, PCs and Android via Bluetooth, and GX Gaming devices are always well within budget, this versatile controller is certainly going to be in more than a few hands when it launches in the market.

SW-2.1 1850BT Speaker:
Bringing back the bass, Genius has launched a range of 2.1-channel speaker systems for small home lounges and gamers alike. Featuring a combined 50W of overall power, the 1850BT Speaker system is powerful yet compact enough to fit any situation. A multitude of connection options, from Bluetooth to 3.5mm Audio to Optical out, and a remote for easy control make this set of speakers an easy choice for those looking for a quality budget set. Plus, the SW-G2.1300 II features similar specs but with added RGB for those who prefer a little more colour.
