It’s only Wednesday morning, yet it’s already been a week for Metal Gear Solid fans. Not only did we get the first actual gameplay trailer for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, which was great in its own right, but Konami has also shared even more information about the upcoming remake.
Thanks to the game’s official introduction page, we now have more information that was not revealed in the gameplay showcase. Some of it is pretty vanilla, like the fact that Unreal Engine 5 was used for the characters and setting or that players can expect a more modern control style.
However, where things get exciting and somewhat spicy is that this time around, any injuries inflicted on Snake will leave permanent scars on the unfortunate protagonist.
The battle damage system has been upgraded, with the wear and tear of Snake’s clothes, as well as bruises and bullet wounds on his body, reflected in real-time.
Any injuries to his actual body will leave a permanent mark, telling a story of each player’s unique journey through the game.
And I don’t need to tell anyone how quickly this can turn into a dire, appearance-shattering ordeal for Snake if you’re anything like the player I am. Most of the conversation on X surrounding this has been people joking around about how bad things can actually get for Snake with this change set into motion.
Other people, and I’d be lying if I said my mind didn’t go there as well, have been questioning if his clothes will be the first to go, with one user writing:
“First thing I’m doing is absolutely demolishing his shirt.”
And another:

Now, in reality, this feature probably won’t turn Snake into a walking mess of bones and guts, but it is fun, and truly, I’m excited to see how this all turns out. Who knows, maybe injury-free Snake runs will become a thing.
