Get Ready To Dive Into The Early History Of Roleplaying Games Thanks To Wizards of the Coast

In an undoubted win for Dungeons & Dragons lovers everywhere, a new Wizards of the Coast book will explore the early history of everyone’s favourite roleplaying game.

The Making of Original Dungeons & Dragons: 1970-1977 will be released on June 18th. It will be a compilation of documents and manuscripts from the development and release of the first tabletop RPG.

This title will provide never-before-seen documents that detail how the game came together and explore how Dave Arneson’s Blackmoor roleplaying wargame and Gary Gygax and Jeff Perren’s wargame Chainmail became Dungeons & Dragons as we know and love it.

The book will also include the 1973 draft of Dungeons & Dragons and the actual published Brown Box and White Box rules. This will be amazing to see, and it’s also a great way to preserve and share this part of gaming history with the masses.

Previously, these documents were primed to eventually be lost to time because they were locked away in inaccessible private collections.

The Making of Original Dungeons & Dragons: 1970-1977 is curated by and includes commentary from Dungeons & Dragons historian Jon Peterson.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, my wallet just rolled a 1, which means I have some money to part with… But really, that’s a nat 20… right?
