Windows 11 Finally Fixes Annoying Video Playback Bug

Let’s not even kid around with each other here. I know, you know, and we all know that Windows machines are just really expensive ways to enjoy YouTube videos while doing some work and playing some games in between.

However, for those of us on Windows 11 who use Chromium-based browsers, the experience has been less than stellar lately. However, thanks to the Windows 11 KB5037853 Preview build, this may be a bad dream soon enough.

For those who have experienced the dreaded checkerboard effect while watching YouTube, the issue seems to have stemmed from using Chromium-based browsers to playback video on specific GPUs, with Nvidia RTX card owners being hit the hardest.

Over the years, there have been various workarounds, and Windows has promised that the issue has been resolved, but this is the first time that those promises actually have some substance.

According to Window’s own words on the matter:

This update addresses an issue that distorts parts of the screen. This occurs when you use a Chromium-based browser to play a video.

The update also adds some new features for Windows 11 users, like the ability to drag between breadcrumbs in the File Explorer address bar, a new Linked Devices page for managing multiple PCs and Xbox consoles from one place, and even a new account manager for the Start menu.
