PlayStation is taking further steps to get its fingers into the mobile gaming pie by hunting for employees with serious mobile-game development experience.
Around two years ago, Savage Studios was acquired and set to manage PlayStation Studios Mobile Division. With experience in the field from working with major players like Zynga, Supercell, and Rovio, it made sense, but since then, we haven’t heard much from the Mobile Division.
That was until Derek Strickland from TweakTown picked up a job opening at PlayStation with mobile development experience.
The job posting reads:
PlayStation Studios Mobile is seeking an experienced software engineer to design PlayStation’s platform for developing, publishing, and operating free-to-play mobile games. An individual in this role will spearhead the design and implementation of this platform; work in partnership with internal teams to connect mobile games to PlayStation services; and ensure that all mobile games meet PlayStation’s quality standards.
This job listing also confirms a few rumours, pointing out that PlayStation is currently developing two AAA titles for mobile platforms.
What has gamers most excited about the news is the catalogue of games that resides within PlayStation Studios. Games like Call of Duty Warzone Mobile, which you can check our review for here, have made massive strides in the quality of games we can play on our mobile phones these days and with similar high-quality titles like Horizon, Final Fantasy and The Last of Us, it’s only a matter of time before some people in the gaming world start to take mobile gaming a little more seriously.
If you could pick any game from the PlayStations catalogue to play on your mobile phone, what would be your first choice?
