It’s crazy to think about, but everyone’s favourite pen-and-paper rolling game, Dungeons and Dragons, is turning 50 later this year, and it seems like everyone is getting in on the action and celebrating this monumental achievement.
Dead by Daylight isn’t a game that would let a perfectly good villain pass them by, so it’s no wonder they’re helping to celebrate Dungeons and Dragons by introducing the powerful and all-evil Vecna as the game’s next big bad killer.
Vecna also brings a unique twist to the game: he is actively trying to gain entry into the fog and conquer and rule this new realm. Vecna also comes with four unique spells:
Fly grants Vecna speed and lets him pass over obstacles
Flight of the Damned conjures flying entities that can pass through obstacles and attack anything, or anyone, they hit
Dispelling Sphere creates an AOE sphere that will reveal survivors and disable their items
Finally, the Mage Hand. This iconic ability creates a phantasmic hand that can complete tasks like holding and blocking Pallets.
Alongside Vecna, there will also be two new survivors: Aestri Yazr, an elf bard, and Baermar Uraz, a human bard. A new map, known as the Forgotten Ruins, will be a dungeon comprised of a ruined tower and an underground lair of terrible experiments and horrifying secrets.
Exploring this dungeon will reveal chests that can only be opened by rolling a D20. Roll a 2 or 3, and you’ll be rewarded with a standard item, but roll a 4 to a 19, and you’ll receive magical gauntlets or boots to counter one of Vecna’s spells.
Critical success hasn’t been forgotten either because rolling a 20 will reward you with either the Eye of Vecna, enabling you to vanish briefly after exiting a locker, or the Hand of Vecna, which can be used to teleport between lockers.
What happens when you roll a 1, a.k.a. a critical failure? Well, you’ll just have to play and figure it out.
Dead by Daylight: Dungeons and Dragons will arrive on June 3rd. Are you as excited about this collaboration as I am? Let me know in the comments.
