It’s May the Fourth, everybody! While Saturday posts on NAG aren’t commonplace, what better day to make an exception? May the Fourth is a day when it’s not only okay to shout about your love for Star Wars, but frankly, it’s encouraged.
A long time ago, in a galaxy not too far from where I’m at right now, a small little girl called Arielle was taken to the movies by her dad to watch her first-ever Star Wars movie on the big screen—it was also the day that a lifelong obsession began.
Throughout the years, my love for all things Star Wars has only grown, and it’s on days like today that I get to share at least some of that love with you guys, and this year I’m tackling my biggest challenge yet:
Showing you how to watch every significant Star Wars movie and TV show in chronological order!
And trust me, with more Star Wars entries than there are stars in our galaxy (don’t fact-check me, just trust that it’s the truth), this was no easy undertaking.
So, if you’re looking to settle in for some serious Star Wars universe binging, got your back, i do. Enjoy you must.
Outside of the core movies, Star Wars has also expanded to include spin-off films, live-action TV shows and animated TV shows and films. If you’re not interested in all the “fluff”, if you will, here is how the core Star Wars experience can be broken down so that it still makes sense:
The Prequel Trilogy
As the title above suggests, the prequel trilogy dives into the origins of the Star Wars saga by exploring the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker, as well as the events leading up to the Galactic War.
- Episode I: The Phantom Menace
- Episode II: Attack of the Clones
- Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
The Original Trilogy
These movies saw Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Chewbacca introduced. They also take viewers through the Rebel Alliance‘s fight against the Galactic Empire, setting up future stories.
- Episode IV: A New Hope
- Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
- Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
The Sequel Trilogy
These movies are set some decades after the events of the original trilogy and introduce the new generation of Star Wars characters into the fold.
- Episode VII: The Force Awakens
- Episode VIII: The Last Jedi
- Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker
However, if you’re in the mood for the ultimate Star Wars viewing experience and want to see everything that the franchise has to offer, here’s how to watch every significant Star Wars movie and TV show in chronological order:
Tales of the Jedi
Star Wars: The Phantom Menace
Star Wars: Attack of the Clones
Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith
Bad Batch
Solo: A Star Wars Story
