Here’s some news I never thought I’d type on this random Friday in 2024: Llama with Hats is coming back!
Now, if you grew up on the internet like I did, I don’t think Llama with Hats needs any introduction, but in case there is a gap in your upbringing, here goes:
If you don’t want to watch the video (and you really, really do – trust me), I’ll try to sum up its majesty in just words:
Llamas with Hats was, is, and will be again an animated series that focuses on the antics of two-hat-wearing llamas.
That sounds pretty great, right? Now add in the fact that one of these llamas is a cold-blooded murderer with a hankering for hands, and you have some of the best entertainment that 2009’s internet had to offer.
The series ended in 2015 after just 12 episodes and over a hundred million views, of which at least a few million were from me—and I regret nothing, I tell you, nothing!
Now, after all these years, the characters are coming back, for one last time, in a surreal and fantastical epilogue thanks to the power of crowdfunding.
The epilogue promises to be as long as the previous 12 episodes combined. The original target on Kickstarter was $22,000, with an end date of May 9th.
However, with 12 days to go, the project has not only hit its original goal, but its current pledges are already sitting at a whopping $149,397. See, I knew I wasn’t the only one hitting refresh until I knew every line of every episode by heart.
The backing rewards are also perfectly nostalgic and include a signed Zine and the chance to have your face added to Face Mountain—a mountain of faces that will feature in the episode. And yes, Arielle wants nothing in this world more than to be a part of Face Mountain. And my birthday is coming right up. I’m just saying.
