Better Stock Up on Energy Drinks, No Rest for the Wicked is Close to Launch

After re-igniting gamers’ love for the Metrodvania genre, the studio behind the Ori games, Moon Studios, now has its eyes set on ARPGs.

No Rest for the Wicked is their take on how an action RPG should be, and, according to the few gameplay overviews, trailers, and few sneaky early reviews, it is absolutely fantastic.

Sticking to their guns, Moon Studios has opted to create the game in a similar art style to Ori. Thanks to this choice, players will feel like they’re playing inside a living painting. We know that the art style from Ori was one of the main contributors to what made it such an amazing game, and to see it come back in something completely different has us quite excited at the NAG office.

However, the art style is the only thing that No Rest for the Wicked has that is comparable to Ori.

No Rest for the Wicked is more of a mix of top-down, isometric games like Hades, with fluid movement, and hardcore combat games like Elden Ring. While most people think of Diablo or Path of Exile when it comes to ARPGs, with their horde-like combat and massive abilities, No Rest for the Wicked is looking to make things more “intimate”. The combat will feature smaller but more brutal battles, similar to the ones gamers have experienced in Souls-like games in the past.

Moon Studios released a 25-minute gameplay overview trailer over the weekend, going in-depth on the world they’ve created and how players will have to move and fight their way through it.

They show off the meticulously handcrafted world, where nothing is procedurally generated. The “precision-based”, high-skill combat and abilities system is also given a bit of air time, and the team tease at the end-game content, revealing that it exists and will most definitely push players to their limits.

As teased in the gameplay overview, players will also be able to purchase property, ala-Fable style. You will also help build up the central city as you progress through your story, improving the items and shops that will be on offer.

The game is set to launch into Early Access on the 18th of April on Steam. It will also be available on console later on, once it reaches its 1.0 release.

The initial Early Access version of the game will feature the first chapter and a few side quests for players to work their way through. There will also be daily challenges to complete and a replayable dungeon for you to horde as much loot as possible.

Moon Studios also hopes to add in co-op for up to four players and many more regions for players to access before the game’s official 1.0 launch.
