Helldivers 2 is as ridiculous as it is infuriating. Still, it’s a hell of a lot of fun, proven by the game’s substantial rise in popularity over the last week.
As of writing this, Helldivers 2 has over 330,000 concurrent players on Steam, up from launch weekend’s 150K peak, but that’s not even factoring in all the PlayStation players, which, according to developer Arrowhead Games’ CEO, pushed the game to the least a million concurrent players.
But no viral success comes without a catch. As it turns out, Helldivers 2 developers only ever expected and accounted for about a quarter of the current players flocking to the game.
This means queues to play are now a very real thing, so is the server struggling to hand out rewards as they’re earned and, instead, only dishing them out a few hours later when it can take a moment to think and breathe.
But instead of just shrugging their shoulders at the best problem a developer could have, Arrowhead is pulling all the stops to make it up to fans, and right now, that means they’re handing out bonus ex like they’re Oprah.
