All the Nintendo Switch 2 Rumours

So we have high hopes that the Switch 2, SwitchSwitch or 2witch will launch around September this year, but what exactly will Nintendo’s latest handheld have underneath the hood?

Well, we’ve tried to gather up all the rumours and leaks out there and put them together so we can all gossip over them like a couple of nancies at high tea.

The last version of the Switch that was released featured a stunning OLED screen that many fans immediately upgraded to. While we would usually expect to see updates like this carry through to the next release, it doesn’t seem likely that the Switch 2 will feature the same panel.

Rumours suggest the Switch 2 will feature a larger 8-inch screen over the smaller 6.2-inch we had previously, but it will still be LCD, not OLED. It is suggested that Nintendo has done this to help keep the initial costs down and will more than likely release an updated OLED model down the line to help boost sales when they start to plateau.

As for computing power, unnamed sources over at Reuters have suggested that the Switch 2 will feature a custom Nvidia chip.

As Nvidia is reportedly assisting its customers with custom-designed chips to suit their needs in a quickly expanding AI market, and remembering that the current model hosts an Nvidia Tegra X1, it makes sense that the Switch 2 would carry one of these new, custom chips.

As for games, well, here we have even more good news. It sounds like the Switch 2 will have backwards compatibility for both physical and digital editions of the system’s current library.

According to rumours from Universo Nintendo, we won’t only be getting backwards compatibility, but developers will also be able to enhance their “gen 1” titles to take advantage of the Switch 2’s new hardware. The rumour also suggests that we will get an official announcement from Nintendo next month, either confirming or denying all of the above.

After not having played my Switch for a short while, I picked up a sneaky little game, Roguebook, on special and enjoyed it thoroughly. I can’t wait to see what the Nintendo will have in store for us on their latest console next month. Hopefully, there will be enough hardware to handle all the new Xbox games we’ll be seeing coming to the console.
