Players Won’t Be Able To Complete A Pure Pacifist Run In Avowed

It’s no secret that many players loved spending hows trying to find all the ways that the original Fallout game let you get through it without indiscriminately murdering, from talking your way out of conflict to sneaking around like a ninja.

This is a theme that many other RPGs have since embraced. While it’s an approach that requires far more time, effort, skill and concentration than I will ever possess, it is fun to know it’s a possibility. However, Obsidian’s Avowed isn’t taking that approach, and a pure pacifist run won’t be possible in this Vermintide-inspired game.

According to the developers, players will still be able to try and talk their way out of some problems and even sneak around. Still, overall, players should exact a game with a heavy focus on combat.

During the development of The Outer Worlds, a game that can be completed as a pacifist, Obsidian initially added in a knockout gun to help players achieve that goal; however, according to the developers, this caused much confusion, with players being unsure about how long seminaries could stay unconscious.

While you might think this would be an easy fix by adding clarity, the developers opted to remove this gun from the game and ditch the whole concept when it comes to Avowed.

But regardless of whether you can avoid killing or not, Avowed will still give players plenty of freedom when it comes to how they choose to approach the game:

“We’re not planning on one specific linear path that players are going to take through that world. So we’re trying to account for the various places they could be, and the various points of interest they might find and what they might see from there.”

It’s also worth noting that regardless of how players choose to play, Avowed’s companions will never ditch you just because they disagree with your murder-hobo ways.
