With the launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League just a mere ten days away, Rocksteady has given us an all-new launch trailer as a ticket onto their hype train.
The trailer is action-packed and gives us a glimpse or two of the fights between a few characters and the super-evil-looking Justice League, with a humorous quip thrown in to boot. However, scrolling through the comments section clearly shows that this short trailer might not be enough to save the game from death before it even launches.
The number one reason gamers seem upset with Rocksteady and this Suicide Squad game is the addition of a live service. Live service games, like those that feature monthly battle passes or monthly subscriptions, keep gamers paying by introducing new content regularly. New content that you often have to pay for and don’t add to the core of the game.
While Rocksteady has on multiple occasions said the game is not actually a live-service game, it doesn’t help that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will be an online-only game at launch, with an offline patch to follow shortly after release.
Then, add to the mix that studios who have given the game a bit of a test run say that it plays very similarly to Anthem or Destiny, where the fights feel repetitive and the grind is lacklustre.
On the positive side, though, the characters and story have been praised for their humour and exciting twists, having to fight the “usually good guys” as the “usually bad guys.”
As the top-rated comment on the trailer reads:
Riddle me this Batman: what do you call a stone that doesn’t fall, that had potential but wasted it all?
Rocksteady.
I guess only time will tell if this is Rocksteady’s last hurrah or if they manage to pull off another exciting Arkham game that somehow has turned everyone’s negative views of the game into something good.
