The final nail in the coffin for the fan-made Team Fortress: Source 2 project has been hit as Valve issues a DMCA to Amper Software, the team behind it all.
Team Fortress: Source 2 was an ambitious project to revive the classic Team Fortress 2 in Valves Source 2’s engine, giving the game and its massive community another breath of life.
While the news isn’t great, the project was already on pause and almost unlikely to continue due to significant changes coming to s&nbox (or sandbox), the platform on which Team Fortress: Source 2 was being built. Facepunch announced last year around September that they planned to upgrade the s&ndbox platform, which would be better for its future but also meant that all games built on its current coding would no longer work.
While Amper Software was deliberating if they would continue Team Fortress: Source 2 once s&ndbox had been officially upgraded, Valve hit them with the DMCA notice, asking them to take down all their Github repositories and any forks thereof.
Hello everyone. We have some unfortunate news to share with you.
Today, we received a DMCA takedown from Valve on all our public GitHub repositories and all its forks made by the community.https://t.co/BQvtPwjPtn

This does mean that TF2 players will have to stick to the classic version for now while they wait for some other brave souls to attempt to revitalise the game. Let’s hope that the three years Amper Software spent making the upgrades weren’t all for nought.
If you are looking for something that classic Valve hasn’t DMCA’d, you can check out the fan-made Portal mod slash full-story campaign that’ll kill about seven hours of time while you wait for that Team Fortress remake.
