Just over a year ago, a “source” reported to Korean site MTN that NCSoft, the development team behind the Guild Wars MMO franchise, would be developing a game inside the world of Horizon, partnering with Guerilla Games and, in turn, Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Since then, we haven’t heard much more than that, and it was mostly shrugged off as just a rumour. That was until NCSoft announced just yesterday that they had officially signed a partnership deal with SIE.
While the announcement does not specifically state any projects that are being worked on between the two companies, both NCSoft and SIE do say that they plan to use each other’s “technological capabilities and expertise” to “expand beyond genres and regions”. The two are hoping to expand Sony’s reach beyond just the PlayStation console as well, stating that “Under this partnership, NCSOFT and SIE will collaborate in various global business fields, including mobile.”
However you look at this announcement, though, a company with major IPs that everyone knows and loves partnering with another company known for its great MMOs means that sometime soon, we’ll be hearing about an MMO-type game featured within one of SIE’s worlds. Something in the Horizon world does sound like an exciting game to play, but with other IPs like Spider-man, Nioh, Ghost of Tsushima, Death Stranding, or even Ratchet and Clank, the possibilities are endless.
