After 11 years of waiting, the original jetpacking, ground surfing, and disc-shooting mover shooter has returned. Tribes is back, baby!
Some alpha footage of the game has leaked just days before they open up their playtesting to the public this week on the 29th of November.
In the video, we get a small taste of the old Tribes movement that the game is renowned for and a good look at a few of the in-game weapons as well. The Spinfusor returns alongside a mini-gun, some sort of rifle, a vertical disc gun, come rocket launcher and a bow gun.
If you’re as excited as we are about the return of Tribes, you can sign up for the playtest via a Google Form here. The playtest will only feature the 5v5 CTF (Capture the Flag) game mode for now.
Although a studio going by Prophecy Games is now developing the game, the studio was formed within the original developer Hi-Rez Studios and incorporates quite a few of the original team, so we should get the same old Tribes we love with an updated look, smoother feel and some interesting modern twists.
