Starfield’s DLSS Update Gets A Mixed Reaction On Steam

One of the strangest things about Starfield was Bethesda’s seemingly baffling decision to launch the game without DLSS support.

Considering how Nvidia GPUs dominate the Steam Hardware and Software survey, this was particularly weird. But I digress.

After some help from the community and modders, DLSS is now finally live for Starfield, which means those with compatible video cards can now take advantage of DLSS Super Resolution, Deep Learning Anti-Aliasing, Nvidia Reflex Low Latency, and DLSS Frame Generation.

And if you’re wondering if this will even be a noticeable difference. Yes, yes, it will, and as a bonus, players don’t even need to sign into the Starfield beta branch to enjoy these benefits.

However, as is the case with Starfield, there can never be good without bad, so now let’s look at why this update hasn’t exactly gone down all that smoothly.

Despite the performance benefits, the reaction to the patch on Steam and social media has been disappointing, much like Starfield itself.

As we previously said in our review, which you can read here, Starfield is a far press from the epic and sprawling sci-fi RPG we were promised, and the reaction to this update just further drives that point home.

Sure, it’s nice that improvements are being made to the game, but when the game gives you no reason to want to play it, do performance updates even matter?

Overall, Starfield now has a Mixed review on Steam. But we want to know from you, what are your thoughts on the game? Let us know in the comments.
