Warhammer 40,000: Darktide Is Getting A Free Two-Part Update

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is a game that was released in a pretty abysmal state thanks in no small part due to the game’s significant performance issues, an unfinished crafting system and a broken progression system, among other issues.

However, since its release, the game has slowly been clawing its way back to the franchise’s former glory, and thanks to some recent overhauls, the game has received Very Positive reviews on Steam.

And now, to celebrate the game’s first anniversary, a free two-part update is getting ready to send players to the Carnival. Yes, you read that right.

First announced late last week, The Traitor Curse is a free two-part update, with the first part arriving this month and the second following sometime over the next few months.

If you’re interested in exploring this update when it goes live, here is everything you can expect:

  • New Cinematic: Learn about the motivations of the Moebian 6th and discover The Carnival, a new disreputable zone promising transgressive distractions and entertainment.
  • New Zone & Mission: Strike at the heart of the Moebian 6th operations and fend off hordes of enemies in Mercantile located in The Carnival.
  • Inspect Feature: Inspect player load-outs in The Mourningstar.
  • Update to Veteran Talent Tree: Enjoy many changes and tweaks made to the Veteran tree, including the addition of Keystones (due to these changes, Veterans will see their talent tree reset, and players will have to re-assign talent points).

According to lead-level designer Fredric Grapensparr, the Carnival can be explained as:

“The Carnival is effectively a massive slum … the disreputable nature of the place means it is a notorious area for entertainment: that’s its appeal. It’s the place you go for a brief respite and vice. It’s attractive in a very degenerate way, vivid and dirty, promising transgressive thrills.”

But now we want to hear from you. Is this update enough to bring you back to the game and give it a second chance? Let us know in the comments.
