Sony Tries To Explain Why The Trailer For Star Wars: Knight Of The Old Republic Remake Was Removed

After throwing the video game world into turmoil, Sony has now come out to address why the Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic remake trailer was removed recently, explaining that it was because of an expired music license.

However, eagle-eyed fans have noticed that the tweet from PlayStation revealing the Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic remake was also removed, so their explanation doesn’t hold much weight.

Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic remake, being developed by Aspyr, was set to be the first Star Wars title, outside of Lego Star Wars, not to be overseen by Electronic Arts in over a decade.

Aspyr is the same company that handled the original Knight of the Old Republic and its sequel. However, earlier in the year, Aspyr’s owner, Embracer Group, stated that the company would be restructuring after a $2 billion deal failed to materialize.

This is why many gamers now believe that the trailer being removed is a sign that a Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic remake cancellation is imminent.

Regardless of whether the trailer was removed for licensing issues or if company restructuring has had an effect if the game is still ongoing, it’s unlikely to see the light of day anytime soon.

As part of Aspyr’s restructuring, several directors lost their jobs, which led to the game being handed over to Saber Interactive, who stated that Aspyr had only gotten so far as a vertical slice, meaning the game is still, theoretically, several years out.

Thankfully, the Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic remake isn’t the only upcoming Star Wars project in the works. Quantic Dream and Ubisoft are developing Star Wars Eclipse and Star Wars Outlaws, respectively.

What are your thoughts on all this? Is it just a licencing issue that resulted in the trailer and announcement being removed, or is the project heading towards cancellation? Let us know in the comments.
