Google has just begun publically testing their latest move into gaming, this time through YouTube. Over the last few years, YouTube has slowly broadened its horizons by branching into TV, podcasts and music.
The latest venture is games under the banner of Playables. Currently, Playables are available to a limited number of YouTube users, and if you’re one of them, you should see the new Playable section on the homepage.
Google has been notably low-key about Playables compared to how they were with Stadia, which ended up closing for good in January of this year.
According to YouTube, Playables are games that can be played directly on YouTube on both desktop and mobile devices. It still needs to be made clear when and how Playables will be open to developers and how topics like content guidelines and monetisation will be handled.
Playables are releasing right as Netflix has become far more serious about its gaming segment, and TikTok has also started experimenting with gaming on its platform.
Are you excited to try out Playables and see what it’s about? Let us know in the comments.
