One of our favourite indie games and our favourite cat protagonist game, Stray (you can read our review here), is set to receive an animated movie adaptation with the original published, Annapurna, at the helm.
This surprise yet welcome announcement comes after Annapurna has been riding on the success of their Netflix hit and first animated feature, Nimona.
As of writing, most of the details about this upcoming project are still under wraps, but Robert Baird, the head of Animation at Annapurna, did say that the movie is in active development and is set to be the most fantastic hopepunk movie that’s ever been made.
If the term hopepunk trips you up, this is something that Robert Baird describes as a narrative concept that uses optimism as its core form of resistance against tyranny.

The Stray adaptation is only one part of Annapurna’s plans to take on the world of film. The animation team has also announced a movie called FOO with the creator of Ice Age, and Nimona’s co-director has signed on to head up a yet-to-be-named project.
Annapurna also teased that a few other games under its umbrella could very well be receiving a movie adaptation, and some of the other games being considered are the time-loop thriller Twelve Minutes and the narrative mystery Kentucky Route Zero.
