Sea of Stars is one of our most anticipated games of the year, and it releases on all platforms today, including Game Pass and PlayStation Plus, meaning you should already be downloading it while you read this. If you choose to accept this side quest, click here, then choose your platform of choice and download. Then, return to this page and continue your adventure here.
Early reviews from critics all over for Sea of Stars place it right up there, meaning it could be a Game of the Year contender.
Currently, the game sits at number 11 on both OpenCritic and MetaCritics 2023 games lists, alongside a good few heavy hitters like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and the smash hit Baldur’s Gate 3.
Of course, these are still the few early reviews that are keeping it up there, and after today, we are sure to see the user reviews come in, which will be the real sign of whether the game is a true contender for the coveted GotY title.
For an indie title to be sitting so high up on the list this early on, though, can only be rewarding for Sabotage Studios, the development team behind Sea of Stars. The game attempts to bring older JRPGs that people love, like Chrono Trigger, into the present by mixing stunning pixel art with modern combat mechanics and flavouring it with classic puzzles and an interesting-level design.
If you’ve somehow made it this far into the year without hearing about Sea of Stars yet, you can check out the trailer below. I guarantee the retro gamer inside of you will instantly add it to your download list, especially if you’re subscribed to Game Pass or PS Plus.
Once you’ve finished the game, let us know if you think it could win Game of the Year, or if it falls dramatically short from the sea of stars it’s aiming for.
