Lords of the Fallen Dev’s Give us 20 Minutes of Extended Gameplay Ahead of Launch

Lords of the Fallen, if you haven’t heard of it, was a 2014 souls-like game that had slow and heavy combat and every dodge mattered. To say that I died more in that game than any other souls-like would be an understatement.

It seems like I need to start preparing myself for more dying though as the sequel, or reboot, is coming out on the 13th of October, and from the most recently released extended gameplay trailer, it doesn’t look like it’ll be any easier.

While marketed as a reboot, Lords of the Fallen actually takes place 1000 years after the original game. Players will be playing in the lands of Mournstead where your mission is to restore radiance to the Six Beacons of the Sentinels. I’m sure more will be revealed in the coming months, but that sounds easy enough.

You will also be able to play in both the realm of the living, Axiom, and the realm of the dead, Umbral. This will be one of the key differences between Lords of the Fallen and other souls-like games. When you die in Axiom you get transported to Umbral for a chance to fight your way back to life, however, Umbral’s enemies are not the same as those in Axiom.

Players will also be able to choose to be transported to Umbral using their Umbral lamp as both versions of the lands of Mournestead will feature different hidden treasures to be found.

It does seem like the combat is quite fluid and fast-paced this time around and with the second chance at life in Umbral, maybe I won’t die as much as in the original game, maybe.

Lords of the Fallen can be pre-ordered now on PlayStation, Xbox, Steam and Epic.
