What NAG is Playing from Steam Next Fest

Steam Next Fest is basically the NAG Cover Disc of all the latest and greatest games and demos set for release on the Steam platform. It’s live right now until the 26th of June, and you can jump onto Steam to check out some of the devs talking about what they’re working on in their games. These are the games that the NAG team have been eyeing throughout the week.

Sea of Stars [Steam]

“Sea of Stars is a turn-based RPG inspired by the classics. It tells the story of two Children of the Solstice who will combine the powers of the sun and moon to perform Eclipse Magic, the only force capable of fending off the monstrous creations of the evil alchemist known as The Fleshmancer.”

Sea of Stars looks like an exceptionally crafted turn-based RPG, and I’ve been eyeing it for a while now. It turns out Arielle likes copying me, and Random Sales Guy, who doesn’t even like turn-based games, is also hyped for this one.

Little Kitty, Big City [Steam]

“You’re a curious little kitty with a big personality on an adventure to find your way back home. Explore the city, make new friends with stray animals, wear delightful hats, and leave more than a little chaos in your wake. After all, isn’t that what cats do best?”

The almighty NAG Editor and Random Sales Guy have become the cat people in the office [Become? We were born cat people. pssss. pssss. pssss – Ed]. It’s evident by their pick of Little Kitty, Big City, a cute adventure game I’m sure will win over the rest of the team when it releases.

Lies of P [Steam]

“Lies of P is a thrilling soulslike that takes the story of Pinocchio, turns it on its head, and sets it against the darkly elegant backdrop of the Belle Epoque era.”

It’s clear that Arielle and I vividly remember that Honest John was not as honest as he claimed to be, and we’re out for revenge in this dark and moody ‘re-telling’ of the classic tale.

SteamWorld Build [Steam]

“In SteamWorld Build, you must escape a dying planet by building a mining town to dig up vital long-lost technology. Meet the ever-growing needs of your citizens, trade resources and defend your mine from the creatures that lurk below.”

Deep down, in his loving and warm soul, Regardt has always wanted to be a miner slash town mayor slash trader slash defender, and while we do think of him as one at the office, in SteamWorld Build he can live out that fantasy in peace.

SlavicPunk: Oldtimer [Steam]

“The game is an isometric shooter. The story revolves around Yanus- a private investigator with a troubled past trying to solve the case of stolen data while fighting his inner demons, urban gangs and an omnipotent corporation responsible for the decay of the city he once used to call his own.”

Another awesome-looking pick from the editor himself, SlavicPunk, looks like an amazing take on the popular Cyberpunk genre. The isometric view allows for great action shots and crazy, cyber-fueled stunts.

Alien: Homonid Invasion [Steam]

“Old friends and bitter enemies await as you invade Earth alongside a Mothership full of alien friends! Blast, beam, and bite your way through an endless swarm of enemies as you and up to three of your fellow hominids cause mayhem with a huge arsenal of weapons, mutations, and acrobatic maneuvers.”

First, he invaded our editorial group, then he invaded our weekly meetings, it’s all starting to form a pattern with Random Sales Guy and all this invading that he seems to enjoy.

Viewfinder [Steam]

“Challenge perception, redefine reality, and reshape the world around you with an instant camera. Viewfinder is a new single-player game offering gamers hours of interesting and fun experiences while uncovering the mysteries left behind.”

Okay, I will have to side with RSG on this one; Viewfinder looks like a fantastic puzzle game. You can bet I’ll be pointing out all the answers while back-seat gaming in the sales office when this one comes out.

Mind Over Magic [Steam]

“Design, build and manage your magic school to explore what lies below. Study lost arcana, grow exotic plants, brew potions, and raise undead servants — only you can prepare your fragile students to harness their Mind Over Magic”

With Arielle, an absolute Harry Potter fanatic, I’m 99% sure that whatever wizarding school she needs to manage will be excellent, creating witches and wizards capable of keeping the whole world safe from harm. That or she’s starting a magical cult.

Stray Gods [Steam]

“Gods. Romance. Murder. Musical Numbers?! Play as Grace in a world where Greek Gods hide among us. Change your fate as you draw friends, foes & lovers into song using your powers of musical persuasion to unravel the mystery of the Last Muse’s death.”

Every time I hear the words ‘interactive roleplaying musical’ strung together like that, I think of Arielle. It’s no surprise that she has Stray Gods on her wishlist, and I can’t wait for her to tell us about the story, ala Netflix style, in one of Under The Table chats.

New Cycle [Steam]

“Build a new civilization out of the chaos of an apocalyptic solar flare as you grow your House from a lone shelter to an industrial metropolis. Take on the burden of preserving life itself and help your people realize their aim: “A future beyond survival.” Lead the world of New Cycle.”

I’ve been itching for a new RTS Survival game for a while now, and New Cycle looks like just the one I’ve been waiting for. Give me steampunk and put it in a survival game, and you can bet that I’m going to be there, blood, sweat and oil.

Gord [Steam]

“Gord is a single-player adventure strategy. To survive, you must build, but to prevail, you must conquer the darkness beyond the gates. In this dark fantasy world, you must complete quests while managing a populace whose personal stories and well-being decide the fate of your tribe.”

Funny seeing yet another survival game being picked by me here. Gord offers a risk-reward mechanic that’ll force you to exit the comforts of your city to really survive. It’s made by some ex-CDPR devs, and I can smell the Witcher influences in this one. I’m very excited.
