World War 1 has all but ended; you’re cold, tired, drained and hanging on by the thinnest of threads, but you’re almost there, one last train ride to get you home.
Last Train Home is a real-time strategy game with some colony management. Based on real-life events that happened in Czechoslovakia during the end of World War 1, you will be attempting to get your squadron of troops back home via an armoured train. The problem is that the railway line chugs through locations still under dispute.
The game will have you taking your squad on foot, sneaking through towns or taking other enemies head-on in squad-style RTS gameplay. As well as this, you will need to manage your armoured train to ensure that your troops are well-fed, warm, equipped and ready. Failing to do so could result in death by bullet or, perhaps worse, death by hypothermia. The train will consist of various carts such as housing, kitchens, armouries and hospitals, and as you make your way back home, you can upgrade your troops and your train to help make your travel home a little easier.
The team at THQ Nordic just released a behind-the-scenes video of the making of their live-action trailer, and it just goes to show how dedicated the devs at Ashborne Games are at trying to be as accurate as possible when it comes to making Last Train Home. Putting their actors through -15°C weather as they film the scenes is just a taste of how the weather in-game will play a massive role in keeping your squad alive.
While we don’t yet have an exact departure date for when the Last Train Home leaves the station, we are told that it will be in 2023. Just in time to make it home for Christmas, or so your soldiers hope.
