Ashfall, A Third-Person Fallout-Inspired MMO Shooter, Gets A New Trailer

Ashfall is a game that completely passed me by. It was first announced at the Tokyo Game Show last year, but it’s only after the newest trailer dropped – announcing the July beta test – that I first heard of it, and man, oh man, am I glad I did.

If there is a theme I love exploring in video games, it’s undoubtedly an end-of-the-world, Fallout-esque one, and that’s what Ashfall brings to the table.

For a game that’s so obviously inspired by Fallout and even scored by Inon Zur, the man behind the music of Fallout, the game still seems intriguingly different with its eastern-looking wasteland – a setting hardly synonymous with the post-apocalypse.

While the trailer doesn’t give us much of a look at the gameplay, NetEase, the game’s publisher, had this to say about what players can expect:

“At its core, Ashfall is a third-person shooter, with players fighting back to back and exploring dangerous dungeons in search of loot. The combat system involves cover shooting elements, as players dash between vantage points to get in an enemy’s blind spot and fight them from a safe position. Outside of the combat, the trailer also shows off Ashfall’s puzzles, home-building, and weapon-crafting systems, allowing you to participate in different survival experiences in this post-apocalyptic world.”

Ashfall is set for a 2024 release window. It will host several beta tests between now and then, with the first closed beta event happening this July.

Gamers who want to try their luck at getting in for this closed beta can do so by following this link to the official Ashfall site and signing up.
