Since PlayStation started bringing their PS exclusive titles to PC, more and more people have fallen in love with the games and have been vocal online about their wish that these games would launch on PC alongside PlayStation instead of months, if not years later.
So much noise has been made about this that Jim Ryan, the CEO of PlayStation, has had to confirm that PlayStation is looking to continue with its current release plan. They’re not entertaining the idea of day-one releases for PC.
In 2020, when Horizon Zero Dawn was ported to PC, it was a surprising move from Sony, who had, up until then, kept its-first party titles exclusive to its own system, much like how Nintendo operates with its exclusives. However, after the roaring success of this port, Sony started to port more and more of their titles, including God of War, The Last of Us and Marvel’s Spider-Man.
This influx of games being released on PC led many fans to believe it was only a matter of time before they would receive the games on PC as day-one releases alongside PlayStation. Still, according to Jim Ryan, the current waiting system between two to three years has proven successful. Thus they have no plans to reevaluate or change this strategy.
Jim Ryan also stressed that having exclusives for the PlayStation 5 is essential. As such, Sony plans to increase the number of exclusive titles they focus on. I will say that from a personal standpoint, having to wait for exclusives to come to PC may seem infuriating but looking at the disastrous releases of The Last of US indicates that extra time is something that’s much needed and pushing games out faster might not be the happy ending that many PC gamers are hoping for.
