The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Includes A Throwback To Previous Zelda Games While Cooking

There were many things you could have spent this past weekend doing. Unless those things were playing the final Diablo 4 beta event or The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, it was a waste. Who needs to spend quality time with their moms on Mother’s Day? Right?

Anyway, gamers who did find time to start playing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom this past weekend unearthed a pretty cool easter egg when they noticed that each time Link cooks, he starts humming a different classic Zelda song.

These songs cover many beloved Zelda games, from Link’s Awakening to Ocarina of Time. For the most part, the core mechanics of cooking in the game are unchanged from Breath of the Wild, with Link simply opening his inventory, selecting up to five food items and then throwing them onto a fire.

After a few seconds, the game will spit out food that players can use to replenish health, gain buffs, or other fantastic benefits. However, the one thing that cooking in Tears of the Kingdom adds that Breath of the Wild did not have is the addition of Link’s humming.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom further improved cooking by introducing recipe cards and allowing players to use a Zonai device as a portable cooking pot, meaning players are no longer limited by having to find a fire.

Link can grab this Zonai Portable Pot via the Zonai Device Dispensers scattered throughout Hyrule. These machines allow Link to exchange Zonai Charges, which he gets from defeating Constructs and through exploration for incredible benefits.
