MMO Chrono Odyssey Reveals a Little Gameplay

MMORPGs are probably one of the most exciting genres in the gaming industry, at least for me, it is. While I do enjoy well-made story lines that are made to be played and enjoyed by myself, I enjoy more the capability to experience that story with a friend and maybe 34 online strangers as well. The trouble is that the heavy hitters like WoW and Final Fantasy are just so good that it’s really hard to make an MMO these days that have the same kind of lasting effects. I do like to keep my eye on what gets released though, as there have been some pretty good ones recently.

Speaking of, Npixel politely dropped a new gameplay trailer for their upcoming MMO Chrono Odyssey.

After watching the first few seconds of the trailer, I had to immediately check that I had the game on my wishlist after watching the first few seconds (I don’t, but only because it can’t be added to your wishlist yet). The game’s stunning graphics had me salivating. The next thing I noticed was how “soulsy” the game started to feel. I’m not opposed to it, I had a fabulous time smacking enemies in the face with some pals over on Elden Ring, and then, then I saw the awesome spells that the Sorcerer was flinging out while at the same time “instantly transmissions” herself to dodge enemy hits! It looks like a good time to me.

Over on the PlayStation Blog, Samuel Seo, the Producer at Chrono Studio, also gave us a few little bits of information about the game. Chrono Odyssey will be set in an epic open world called Setera, “which transforms with each passing season”. He also speaks to the combat, saying that while mastering the basics will grant you the upper hand, you must be prepared for the unexpected as each enemy has a varied attack pattern. Exciting! The defining factor for Chrono Odyssey is the ability to play with time. In the trailer, we can see how the player dramatically slows it down to perform abilities as well as use it to rewind the player’s position and even reverse death. As for how this will all play out on an MMO-sized scale, I’m not 100% sure, but you can’t release a game with the word Chrono in the title and not have any time-related goodies in it for us to play with.

Samuel tells us that we will have a choice from 6 different classes: Swordsman, Ranger, Sorcerer, Paladin, Berserker, and Assassin and that we will have customization options regarding to both gender and appearance. As for how much customization, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Chrono Odyssey was slated for release in 2023, but there has been no other update on a release date. If I hear anything, I’ll keep you updated.
