PlayStation 5 using the PS VR 2

To say that I’ve spent the last few weeks addicted to the PS VR2 is, to put it mildly. Sony’s new VR system released with more games than there has been time to play. Not only have these launch titles been visually and mechanically excellent, but they’ve also taken full advantage of Sony’s new hardware, bringing players the very best VR experiences available.

But while the bugger launch titles like Horizon Call of the Mountain have undoubtedly stolen my heart and the majority of my time, one more minor title has fast become a go-to for anyone I introduce the system to, as well as for me every time I enter the virtual world. That game is Zombieland VR: Headshot Fever Reloaded.

I don’t often talk about my love for gaming outside the PC and Console world. Still, much of my childhood was spent in Arcades playing classic shooters with those less-than-accurate plastic guns, trying to beat the high sores. It’s been a long while since I’ve played something that gave me that same childhood joy until Zombieland VR: Headshot Fever Reloaded.

Zombieland VR: Headshot Fever Reloaded - Double Tapping All The Way

Zombieland VR: Headshot Fever Reloaded is a VR zombie shooter that drops players into the comedically violent setting of one of my all-time favourite movies, Zombieland. But unlike many games based on already established movie franchises, Zombieland VR: Headshot Fever Reloaded is more than just a cheaply put-together cash-grab. Instead, it’s a wildly entertaining arcade experience that has quickly entered my heart.

Mechanically the game is as simple as any arcade game from your childhood, with all the missions following an on-rail structure comparable to House of the Dead. The missions will have players face off against a plethora of zombies of different types. The aim of the game is to figure out how to streamline your runs while attempting to improve your score and survive against the armies of the undead.

Zombieland VR: Headshot Fever Reloaded - Double Tapping All The Way

Zombieland: Headshot Fever Reloaded puts players into a base of operations alongside the four titular characters from the film, with Abigail Breslin returning to voice Little Rock and Woody Harrelson’s brother Brett taking over the role of Tallahassee. And while all of this is great and adds to the general atmosphere, the area where Zombieland: Headshot Fever Reloaded shines is in shooting zombies, something you’ll be doing a lot of.

It’s a sickeningly simple formula with levels that never last longer than a few minutes. Still, much like the arcade games the game draws influence from, it’s madly addicting and a great way to get used to Sony’s new and impressive hardware.

Zombieland VR: Headshot Fever Reloaded - Double Tapping All The Way

As players race their way through the levels, trying to constantly improve on the score of those who have played before, or themselves, there is a satisfying increase in difficulty that makes each new area and level unlocked challenging regardless of your level of comfort improving.

The number of hours I’ve spent in the game trying to complete each level’s list of challenges is unprecedented. Even though I’m now fairly convinced that I should never be handed a gun when faced with a real-life zombie apocalypse, I’ve yet to find another VR game that has captivated me more than this.

Zombieland: Headshot Fever Reloaded is a great “just five more minutes” VR title that is complimented by its familiar setting and enjoyable controls, and while it’s far from the most beautiful or impressive VR titles I’ve played, it is one of the most enjoyable, and if you’re looking for a straight-to-the-point zombie shooter, you won’t go wrong here.
