I love nothing more than putting together a list of Easter Eggs after watching something I’m passionate about. Something about putting them together just before Easter feels that much more perfect.
About two weeks ago, we were invited to attend the South African premiere of Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves, and since then, we’ve been itching for you, our dear readers, to get the chance to watch it so that we can direct some word vomit your way detailing all the incredible little secrets and moments from the movie you might have missed.
So now that we’ve given everyone enough time, here are a few of our favourite Easter Eggs from Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves.
Fresh Cut Grass:

I’ve spoken before about my belief that Dungeons & Dragons has never been more wildly popular than it is now. A considerable part of the rise in popularity is thanks to the role-playing web series Critical Role. Since the first trailer for Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves, fans have been searching for any Critical Role reference they could find.
After watching the movie, I can confidently say there is a Critical Role reference. However, it’s pretty subtle, and unless you know what you’re looking for, it’s likely to pass you by. The Easter Egg comes early in the movie in a scene featuring the sorcerer, Simon.
In the scene, Simon is putting on a somewhat disastrous magic show. One of his rather disappointing tricks is conjuring up the smell of fresh cut grass. No, not just cut grass, fresh grass, or even freshly cut grass, but fresh cut grass.
This is significant because Fresh Cut Grass is the name of one of the characters in Critical Role’s third Dungeons & Dragons campaign. Now you might think I’m reaching a bit with this, but thanks to a TikTok from Critical Role, my suspicions have officially been confirmed.

All The Famous Places:

Baldur’s Gate, Neverwinter and Waterdeep are names and places that any Dungeons & Dragons fans will instantly recognise. The film draws heavily from the geography of the Forgotten Realms, and quite a few fan-favourite locations get name-dropped throughout.
One of the most significant examples is when Forge, a character Hugh Grant plays, becomes The Lord of Neverwinter. As fans of the franchise will already know, Neverwinter or the City of Skilled Hands and the Jewel of the North, is a metropolis known for its craftwork.
The area is so popular among fans that it inspired a spin-off multiplayer online game, Dungeons & Dragons: Neverwinter. The other significant name drops are when Edgin talks about Baldur’s Gate and Waterdeep. Baldur’s Gate is a trade-orientated city, home to wealthy merchants, pirates, and smugglers, with its own set of games and then Waterdeep, also known as the City of Splendors or the Crown of the North.
I Spy With My Little Eye… A Flashback:

Perhaps our favourite Easter Egg of the bunch is a blink-and-you-miss-it tribute to the 1980s Dungeons & Dragons animated cartoon series.
During a scene where Holga, Edgin, Simon and Doric are elevated onto the floor of the High Sun games, the third team is dressed as the original characters of the 1980s cartoon. Not only that but to make this moment even more extraordinary, the actors featured are the same who voiced Eric the Cavalier, Hank the Ranger, Presto the Magician, Bobby the Barbarian and Diana the Acrobat.
For those who have never watched it, Dungeons & Dragons was a cartoon show based on the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game, which ran for three seasons. The show focuses on a group of six friends who are transported into the realm of Dungeons & Dragons and follows their adventures as they try to find a way home with the help of their guide, the Dungeon Master, while combating an evil wizard.

While these were some of the more significant moments that stood out for us, there are an unprecedented amount of Easter Eggs hidden throughout for fans to pick up on, from Aarakocra, Dragonborn, Mimics and even a Gelatinous Cube.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves is in cinemas now.
