Do you know what I love? When people do crazy things to uncover news, and I just get to report on it. In today’s example of people having too much free time on their hands (clearly, they don’t play board games), someone has combed through the latest drivers released for NVIDIA GPUs and found a reference hidden within the updates code that mentions both CSGOS2 and CS2. Many believe this to be a pretty strong hint at CSGO being ported over to Source 2, Valve’s more recent game engine.
First released back in 2012, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has remained one of the top-played games on Steam, year after year. But while the game is well-loved by the community, Valve has been tight-lipped when it comes to when fans might anticipate a new version of the game until now, it seems.
Other than the references found in the NVIDIA code, reporter Richard Lewis has also released a statement stating that a new version of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive running on Valve’s Source 2 is indeed in development. Over the years, Richard has proven himself to be a reliable source of information, so second to hearing it from Valve themselves, this is the closest to an actual statement that fans eager for a new version of the game will receive.
Valve choosing to upgrade CS: GO makes sense, the game is now over a decade old so Valve is in a position to move the game forward in a very big way considering all the leaps that have happened in the last decade.
