This past weekend was the annual D.I.C.E. Awards, an award show for the video game industry that was started back in 1998 under the name of the Interactive Achievement Awards. You can think of it as the Academy Awards for video games. It’s a pretty damn big deal.
For this year’s awards, a total of 61 games were nominated. God of War: Ragnarok had a whopping 12 nominations, followed by Horizon Forbidden West and Elden Ring, with eight and seven nominations, respectively. But while just being nominated for a D.I.C.E. award is an achievement, God of War Ragnarok didn’t let anything hold it back and walked away with a staggered seven awards.
God of War Ragnarok took home the award for Outstanding Achievement in Animation, Outstanding Achievement in Art Director, Outstanding Achievement in Character, Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition, Outstanding Achievement in Audio Design, Adventure Game of the Year, and Outstanding Achievement in Story.
However, as impressive as that is, the From Software title Elden Ring walked away with not only Outstanding Achievement in Story, Outstanding Technical Achievement, Outstanding Achievement in Game Design, and Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction but also with the ultimate award: Game of the Year.
While God of War Ragnarok And Elden Ring cleaned house, some other games were also able to snatch up the odd award here and there, and they are:
Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker with Online Game of the Year
Marvel Snap with Mobile Game of the Year
Tunic with Outstanding Achievement for an Independent Game
Red Matter 2 with Immersive Reality Game of the Year
Dwarf Fortress with Strategy/Simulation Game of the Year
OlliOlliWorld with Sports Game of the Year
Gran Turismo 7 with Racing Game of the Year
MultiVersus with Fighting Game of the Year
Vampire Survivors with Action Game of the Year
What do you think of the D.I.C.E. Awards’ outcome? Do you agree? Let us know in the comments.
