Hogwarts Legacy Is The Biggest Single-Player Launch Since Red Dead Redemption 2

No one could have anticipated just how well-received and successful the release of Hogwarts Legacy would indeed be. And yet here we are with Hogwarts Legacy being one of the biggest single-player launches since 2018’s Red Dead Redemption 2, and even obliterating the likes of Elden Ring.

If we look at the sales data from across Europe, we see that in its first week alone, Hogwarts Legacy’s sales were up 56% on Elden Ring’s last year. This would make Hogwarts Legacy the most prominent game launch outside of FIFA & Call of Duty since Red Dead Redemption 2 – despite the controversy, which many believed would bury the game.

We wrote a full review here if you haven’t picked up the game. We also covered the game’s first update, which arrived yesterday for PC gamers.

Even in America, the numbers are in Hogwarts Legacy’s favour, with it topping games such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order with ease. But its success is most notable on PC, where the game managed to hold all four top-seller spots on Steam while boasting an impressive 879,000 concurrent players.

It will be interesting to see what Hogwarts Legacy’s numbers will look like over the next couple of months, as the game is only arriving on previous-gen consoles and Nintendo Switch from April onwards.
