It’s crazy to think how disposable games have become and are becoming. Look at games like Don’t Starve or Payday 2, and they are still receiving constant updates and content even though they’re both a decade old this year. Then there are games like Marvel’s Avengers.
Now I get it; Marvel’s Avengers was a pretty disappointing mess of a game, but for Square Enix to stop actively supporting it or offering updates to a game that is only two years old is shocking. According to patch notes, Avengers will receive its final ever-balancing update in March. That is also when the developer’s Crystal Dynamics will close down the game’s cosmetics marketplace.
A precursor to the real blow on September 30th, when all support for Marvel’s Avengers will officially end. The studio said, “The changes we are making to how the game functions will ensure as long a life as possible. “However, after September 30th, 2023, we can’t guarantee that we will be able to address issues that occur due to unforeseen circumstances.”
If this isn’t enough to scare you off the game and you’re still planning on playing it, you shouldn’t hold off. After September 30th, the game will no longer be available to purchase digitally. It will also be removed from both Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Extra.
