Spotify has announced a new in-app feature called “Playlist in a Bottle”, which allows users to capture their current music tastes and revisit them one year later.
To use the feature, you must update the Spotify mobile app and navigate to spotify.com/playlistinabottle from your mobile device. You can then select your time capsule of choice, which includes options such as a bottle, jean pocket, gumball machine, lunch box, or teddy bear. The feature will then ask you a series of song-inspired prompts, such as what song you want to hear live in 2023 or what song reminds you of your favourite person. Once complete, you can digitally seal the musical time capsule and “send it off”.
Then, in January 2024, you will receive a personalised time capsule reminding you of your music tastes one year prior. Playlist in a Bottle is available for free to premium users on iOS and Android devices across 27 markets, including South Africa (although not officially listed). The feature will only be available until the 31st of January, so get started on your own time capsule before it’s too late.
