In its brand-new Los Angeles studio, Netflix appears to be creating a AAA PC shooter under the direction of former Overwatch producer and Blizzard vice president Chacko Sonny.
As spotted by mobilegamer.biz, the Netflix Jobs website is seeking a Game Director “to help us forge the game direction and creative vision on a brand-new AAA PC game.”
In addition to the Game Director position, the Netflix Games Studio’s LA office is also hiring a technical director, art director and live service analyst.
Netflix has long wanted to enter the gaming industry, however, its current focus has mostly been on mobile devices. In November of last year, the Netflix mobile app began featuring various mobile games such as Lucky Luna and Into the Breach.
Mike Verdu, Netflix’s VP of games, hinted at the extension to PC and other platforms like cloud gaming last month. “We’re very seriously exploring a cloud gaming offering so that we can reach members on TVs and on PCs,” he said.
Netflix doesn’t plan to become a full-on AAA game developer yet, instead, they intend on following a similar approach to their mobile games, start small and build it up. In fact, Netflix started so small that they didn’t even advertise that they had mobile games, it might still be news to some that they are even offering games.
While it’s still unclear what AAA PC game Netflix will be creating, the Game Director listing is asking for candidates with experience in shooter games.
