A few days ago, we covered the news about the upcoming Silent Hill Transmission streamed last night. Going into the stream, I was still very apprehensive about what would be revealed and if it would be worth the hype, but as fate would hate it, those fears were unfounded, and after years of waiting, Konami came in strong.
During the 48-minute video, viewers learnt about a brand new Silent Hill game set in Japan, a remake of a beloved classic, a new Silent Hill movie in the works and saw some of the upcoming Silent Hill-themed merch. The announced Silent Hill 2 remake came as little surprise because this rumour has been floating around the internet for some time now, but it was actually confirmed during the video.
Blooper Team, the studio behind horror games Layers of Fear and The Medium, will be working on the remake, and while there is no planned release window, we know that the game will be exclusive to PS5 and PC for the first 12 months. It was also announced that Konami has once more teamed up with the director of Silent Hill (2006) to produce a brand new movie based on the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake.
Alongside this exciting news, Konami showed off some of the planned merchandise surrounding the franchise, including a Pyramid Head statue in the works. During the presentations, viewers also heard about two smaller Silent Hill experiences heading their way. One of the experiences is called Silent Hill: Townfall, developed by No Code Studio and Annapurna Interactive, and the other is Silent Hill: Ascension.
From what we could gather from the video, Silent Hill: Ascension will be a multiplayer interactive visual novel, something in the same line as Until Dawn, but we will have to wait for further information to form a reasonable opinion on the project.
The final announcement of the night was the actual meat and potatoes of the video, with Konami announcing a completely new Silent Hill game out of nowhere. Called Silent Hill F, the game will depart from its usual Silent Hill location and will instead be set somewhere in Japan. Konami also released a teamster trailer for the upcoming game, which you can watch here.
