GoldenEye 007 – Shaken Not Stirred – Heading To Xbox And Nintendo Switch

Very rarely does the community come together with such overwhelming love for a title as they do for 1997’s global phenomenon, GolenEye 007. This game was released exclusively for the Nintendo 64, which is celebrating its 25th year in 2022 and people STILL consider it a brilliant game.

Back in 1997, when GoldenEye 007 first launched, it was, for lack of a better word – mesmerizing. The graphics were revolutionary, and the 3D version of Pierce Brosnan’s Bond was unmatched. Players didn’t just have the chance to move a block around and pretend it was James Bond; they got to BE James bond.

Few games out there have enjoyed the longevity and love that GolenEye 007 has, and as part of the 60th anniversary of the James Bond films, a very exciting announcement was made over on Twitter:

A remastered version of GoldenEye 007 is finally coming to Nintendo Switch and Xbox. Boasting 4K resolution, smoother frame rates, and split-screen local multiplayer- this is a chance to experience the beloved game without using imagination to fill in the gaps. Oh, and another thing? The game will also drop on Xbox Game Pass.

This isn’t the first time GoldenEye 007 was supposed to be remasted. Back in 2008, it was announced that the game would be coming to Xbox 360 with a lot of excitement surrounding it. However, the game was never released due to licensing and rights issues.

Rare has yet to set an official release window for the upcoming remaster. Still, I hardly think Bond fans will have a problem waiting a little longer before returning to a game that changed everything.
