You know how most city builder games are about, like, building cities? This one is about unbuilding cities. It’s probably metaphorical.
Launching “soon” on PC, according to publisher Devolver Digital, the Broforce team’s next game is an unconventional genre subversion remixing management strategies and the moral consequences of not recycling your trash.
Terra Nil is a reverse city builder about ecosystem reconstruction. Turn a barren wasteland into an ecological paradise complete with different flora and fauna. Then clean up, leaving the environment pristine. Subverting the builder genre, Terra Nil is about the restoration of a ravaged environment.
Terra Nil was first released on itch.io as a “hobby” prototype project by local developers Sam “vfqd” Alfred and Jonathan “elyaradine” Hau-Yoon, but they’ve been working with Free Lives since October 2020 to revamp and expand the game.
“The new version is going to be the same game you all know and love,” the two explained at the time, “just reimagined with better levels, a better metagame, a bunch of new gameplay features, new content, and a wonderful new painterly art style, inspired by the work of Studio Ghibli.”
For now, you can make wishies-for-fishes on Steam.
