Ethan Winters is game’s protagonist, maybe, but the real hero of Resident Evil Village? Lady Dimitrescu.
Since the game’s debut in January, the internet has been #obsessed with the 2.9-metre absolute unit, so her almost instant elevation (lol) to 2021 meme superstar was totally inevitable. She’s big. She’s booby. She’s had enough of those “man-things” messing up her porcelain vases. What’s not to love?
But perhaps more importantly, Lady Dimitrescu has no time for stupid phones.
In a now iconic scene featured in Resident Evil Village’s reveal trailer, she talks with one of the other game’s characters on the phone before hanging up in disgust and trashing the room. I think most of us who’ve answered an unsolicited phone call from a medical insurance company or estate agent or the DA, or – even worse, maybe – had to actually make a phone call (GASP!) can empathise.

Using an “off camera” mod, YouTuber Ezzi recorded the same scene from a different perspective, including a close-up of Lady Dimitrescu’s face that isn’t visible in the original video. Her expression is equally relatable, I think.
And so, Lady Dimitrescu on the phone became a thing. According to Know Your Meme, Twitter user @DullVivid got first dibs on the hot new format.
