Kraven the Hunter is getting the Venom and Morbius treatment as yet another Spider-Man villain with their own film that doesn’t involve most notable nemesis Spider-Man.
According to GameSpot, Sony has given the rumoured standalone Kraven the Hunter film the green light, casting Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass, Avengers: Age of Ultron) as the eponymous villain/occasional anti-hero. Directed by J.C. Chandor (A Most Violent Year), it is unclear what the Kraven the Hunter film will be about, since the big-game hunter’s whole reason for being revolves around hunting and defeating Spider-Man. Sony’s standalone Spider-Man-villain films (like Venom, its upcoming sequel, and the much-delayed Morbius) generally don’t involve Spidey at all, so we have to assume Kraven will be hunting something/one else.
In the comics, Kraven the Hunter is a Russian big-game hunter whose main goal in life is defeating Spider-Man in order to prove that he is the greatest hunter in the world. Kraven doesn’t use weapons, preferring to take down his prey with his bare hands, like a maniac, and likes his hunts to be fair. Except for the part where he uses a mysterious serum to give himself super-strength and an extended life span. Other than that, they’re totally fair and honourable.
Kraven the Hunter is expected to release on 13 January 2023.
