The Shining Girls, written by best-selling South African author Lauren Beukes, is getting the adaptation treatment over at Apple TV. And, no, it has nothing to do with Stephen King.
The Shining Girls is a supernatural thriller novel about time-travelling serial killer Harper Curtis, who is tasked with murdering girls that are bright with potential in order to maintain his access to the magic house that provides said time travel. Starting in 1930s Chicago, Curtis stalks his victims through multiple eras until one young woman survives his brutal attack and turns the hunt around. So, basically, the magic time-travel house is the patriarchy? I’m into it. Crush that house.
According to Deadline, the novel is being adapted for Apple TV with showrunner Silka Luisa (Strange Angel). The cast includes Elizabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale), Jaime Bell (2015’s Fantastic Four), and Wagner Moura (Narcos). The series will run over eight episodes with Moss, Michelle MacLaren, and Daina Reid taking turns directing. Beukes will serve as an executive producer alongside Moss, Lindsey McManus, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson, Michael Hampton, and Alan Page Arriaga.
Well, I’m intrigued. Plus, it’s always fun when one of our own gets all fancy, so get hype and go read the book.
Production has just begun on The Shining Girls, so there’s no official release date, as yet.
